Band and Birthday Celebrations

It has been an eventful past few days for us, here is a quick run down! We started off Saturday with our youngest competing in a local band contest. This was the first opportunity that the 7th grade band students got to compete. He performed a solo and was in an ensemble with a friend. The kids go into different rooms and play before a judge that has a grading sheet.  They play their piece of music, leave that room  and wait for what seems like an eternity to see what they scored. The cafeteria was the place were everyone practiced one last time before going in! So here is a few shots of John and his friends.

.

John received a superior rating on both of his performances! Insert proud mother face! When you receive a superior you are awarded a metal that you can wear on your shirt for the next 2 years during band performances. These are John's!
Monday brought a band concert along with John's 13 birthday.  Since his birthday was on a Monday and the weather hasn't been too warm yet we decided to wait and have his party later in the month and make it a pool party.  But you still must celebrate right?  It will be just like having 2 birthdays he thinks.
The band played several popular songs but I think the favorite of the night was Funky Town.

Pie and G-Dad are the only Grandparents that could make it to the concert since they live here.  It was of course a good reason to come since it was also John's birthday.

John has already made the choice that we would celebrate afterwards with Five Guys...this kid loves a burger!  So we asked one of his best friends if he wanted to join us and low and behold....his entire family did.  They all happen to be our best friends so it was a perfect way to end the evening!
Lest you think I didn't have some sort of birthday sweets for my now teenager...I swung by Gigi's and picked up a few cupcakes(his favs).
