John’s Bedroom Reveal

Honesty is the best policy.  So the reason John’s room has never been shared before is pretty simple,  it just wasn’t worthy of a post.  Short of his actual furniture everything else was pretty much piece mill.  Stuff I found here and there for a good price.  And that worked…he didn’t need a super nice bedding set to make Lego’s on or put his dirty shoes on.
Here is a before pic.

After seeing countless blogging friends using buffalo checks, I knew that was something  that would work for his room.  Then in one of my Charles Faudree books I thumbed across a page with the most beautiful wallpaper and more of a chocolate buffalo check.  After searching the Internet over and over I admitted defeat in the area of finding a similar buffalo check. What I went with was a duvet cover and shams from Ikea.  They are definitely a lighter shade than I originally had planned on but it surely does work

As hard as it was to come up with the duvet and shams, a dust ruffle posed the greatest challenge.  I really didn’t want it to be ruffled…he is a teenage boy after all but I had to concede defeat in regards to the “ruffle.”  I searched all the big box stores for an off white/beige/ecru dust ruffle and struck out until I popped into Bed Bath & Beyond.  They have LOTS of options in dust ruffles.
His furniture was purchased about 10 years ago and is Broyhill’s Pleasant Isle.  The desk on the far side of the bed is a piece I’d love to replace.  I’ve been actively looking for a stained drawer chest but to date I’ve not found one.  The bench at the foot of the bed was a find over in Pine Mountain, Georgia.  The basket that sits on it is a vintage wicker suite case that I picked up at a junk store.

Atop the armoire is a vignette made up of a piece or two from England that of course I found at Sweet Home Antiques.

Let's talk about gallery walls for a bit.  This wall is super super long and I have struggled with what to do with it in terms of art.  A gallery wall seemed to be in order so here is  my attempt!  Crazy about it I am not but it does fill out the wall.

I’m not sure what to call this….a shield maybe.  Whatever it is I found at our local thrift store for a whopping 6 bucks.  I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw it and the price.  I fell completely head over heels for it and knew it would go in John's room.

By now I know what you are all thinking....how do I keep a teenage boy's room so tidy.  Well you haven't seen inside his closet but I promise to share soon.  Both boys are fairly neat but, there are times when  clothes that litter the floor.  He plays alto sax in the marching band, bassoon in Honors Band and he is taking a couple AP classes so his time at home is somewhat limited...can't mess the room up if he isn't in it!
Lamps…I’ve been looking for lamps for this room and I fear I might lose my patience while doing so.  The current lamp is from TJMaxx and John despises it.  The search continues!
I’d love to find a comfy chair for his room as well….this corner just needs something, along with some drapes.

So I will leave you all with this completed look (for now) of John's room.

  2. That duvet looks amazing. Love that you went neutral and not the typical "blues"for boys for your son's bedroom idea. Thanks for sharing :)
