The Tornado

In my hometown of Enterprise, Alabama today is a somber day.  Today marks the 9th anniversary of the EF4 tornado that ripped through our town.  The tornado destroyed my high school...Enterprise High School taking the lives of 8 students and an elderly lady living close by.  Last year was my first time blogging about that day.  In tribute to those that lost their homes, their businesses and their children I'd like to share it again.  So to my faithful readers thank you for allowing me to reshare this somewhat personal event.

Most of you come to my blog to see pretty pictures and read about what I've done recently in our home.  But today, I'd like to tell you about how an EF4 tornado on  March 1, 2007 would forever change countless lives and landscape of the my hometown, Enterprise Alabama.
It was a typical Thursday for me here in Auburn, I had taken the kids to school, was home doing normal housework and of course as any good daughter would, I had talk to my parents.
Later in the morning, Mother called me back to tell me she was going to have to start her bus route earlier due to the schools letting out early in order to get the students home before the storms were expected to hit.  Have I ever mentioned she drove a school bus for Enterprise City Schools for 27 years?
Around 1:30PM a friend in Savannah called me to ask if everything was okay with me and had I seen the Weather Channel.  She went on to say that Enterprise High School had been destroyed by a tornado.

Taking Rod Pocket Panels up a Notch

For what seems like forever I've searched for window treatments for much of our house.  A few weeks ago I spied panels while at Pier 1 Imports, I thought they might work in the "never before seen" bonus room.  They ended up being too short for that space.  This totally flung a wrench into my goal of having the bonus room makeover started.  But as luck would have it they turned out to be great in John's room.

At first I tried hanging them just on the rod, they are after all rod pocket panels.  Here is how that looked.

So back to the store to pick up curtain rings.  I would have liked to have had larger rings but they simply didn't look right on the rod.  So smaller worked just fine!  I did use a ruler to  measure equal spacing for the rings.  Mother with all her sewing ability believes she can make a french pleat out of these next time she visits!

I promise...an iron was used in the hanging of these panels not that it looks like it!  As most know, linen doesn't iron well.  Maybe the longer they hang the wrinkles will fall out.

Having window treatments now gives John's room a more polished look.

Now to find a chair.....

The Perfect Bamboo Table

As promised, I'm sharing one of my finds from Saturday's antique shopping trip.  This little cutie was spotted about a month ago at Chipley Market.  Your guess is as good as mine as to why I didn't pick it up then.  Maybe it was because the Christmas tree was up. At any rate, as luck would have it the table was still there...in the half priced room!

This spot in the living room seemed the most likely place for it and I really like it there.

The fun part began with styling the top of the table as well as the shelf underneath.  The piece of Majolica just seemed to fit perfect on those books.  The leather bound books were a find at Scott's earlier this month.

The first piece I put on the top was the red transfer ware dish.  It compliments the winged back chair.  Bestie N suggested something tall and dark.  We considered a bronze statue but there is none to be had in all of Auburn.  Next option seemed to be a barley twist candlestick.  It just makes the table I think, it is perfect!  The little stack of books with the bronze dog finish out the color palette of warm colors.

This room is probably the most evolved room in the entire house.  Take a peek here to see the before.

Our master bedroom doesn't get much, if any show time on the blog.  Why you might ask?  It is such a disappointment from the previous master suites we've had!  This is a bedroom, not a suite.  At the beginning of the year I decided it was time to fall in love with what I had...to work with.
