Feeling Blue for Christmas

Now before you start to think I'm feeling sad....I'm just feeling blue...lots and lots of blue for Christmas this year!!!  After choosing to use only silver and gold in last year's color scheme for Christmas, I knew that this year I'd go all out for color!  In fact, each space I've decorated this year is a completely different color.  I'm excited to share those spaces over the next few weeks!  Today, I'm sharing our family room that is all decked out in blue!

For this year's color scheme I drew inspiration from none other than Blue Willow.  After Christmas last year I dashed to Pier 1 and bought every blue bit of tree decor they had!  HA!!  Really I did!

The blue poinsettas are nothing short of gorgeous to me!

The family room tree typically holds our family ornaments.  Ornaments we've collected over the years that are from trips or locations we've been. 

This year a Linda from The Home I Create, posted on Instagram her tree filled with Blue Willow plates. She inspired me to do the same.  I'll now be on the hunt for Blue Willow butter pats.  I've seen plenty in the past but, saw no reason to get them...regrets, I've got a few!

The coffee table in our family room always gets lots of use, not as much as it did since John is away at college.  He will be home most of the month of December so I still needed to keep the space not super full.  The container holding ornaments is from Pottery Barn many years ago but, I see them everywhere now!

 

There is no doubt that I love this room decorated with all my most favorite colors and things. 

A Silver and Gold Christmas Tablescape

Now that Thanksgiving is behind us I am so excited to bring on Christmas!!!  Ya'll know that I love a tablescape and especially at Christmas time. This might be my all time fav Christmas tablescape ever!  I always adore mixing silver and gold pieces, so that is exactly what I did!

As I began to gather pieces from my inventory aka stash, I knew that I wanted the silver/gold magnolia placemat to be a base, but it still felt like it needed more so I added the silver and gold placemat boards that you all have seen numerous times.  I started building from that point.

Inside each box that sits on the salad plate guests will find a small treat.  These boxes are from Pier 1 and are available in silver and gold.

Our wedding china, Montclair by Lenox anchors most of my place settings this season as the Christmas tree decor doesn't lend very well to reds this year.

After much debate I made the decision to keep the place settings as a focal point and to just use my silver candle holders as the only centerpiece.

This tablescape will welcome my girlfriends early this next week!  My goal is to always make those that I'm close to feel as special as possible!

How To Use the Same Charger Creating Different Looks

Creating fun tablescapes has long been a hobby of mine. Since it is Christmas time and everyone is very careful about spending too much extra $$ I'd like to share how I used the same charger for both a very formal look and casual look. As soon as I saw these chargers in the Pier 1 planner in early fall I knew I'd have to have them.

Initially, I'll admit that I only saw them with my everyday dishes.   Once I got the plaid chargers home I happened to pull out my Christmas china and as they sat beside each other it hit me, maybe that was also an option.  I'll start with the informal dishes.  My everyday dishes are your basic creamy white in color.  They go with everything!

 Also notice the green rattan charger, when I started working on this I didnt even recall these placemats.  It wasn't until I went looking for my napkins that I saw those.  Before I found these I was also looking at a simple round green placemat from Pier 1 that happens to be almost the same color.  The same look could have been achieved with those round placemats! 

We are not huge entertainers until December rolls in.  Since we have multiple dinners that often include the same yet different people, I want the table setting to be fresh and new each time.  Now as a side note, this isn't the only table setting that I will be sharing the Christmas china in.

My initial concern was would the plaid be too casual to use my formal Christmas china with.  The second I sat the dinner plate on the charger the answer was NO!

 Resting a very formal napkin with a gold thread, I placed the napkin vertically on the charger.  It worked to soften both the charger and the plate.

 Along with adding softness, I believe it broke up the plaid just a bit.  The colors of both the charger and the plates marry very well.  All that was left for me to do was add a few others elements to the table.  Fresh greenery from the yard along with the lantern, mercury glass taper holder and the gorgeous pair of pierced candle holders finish the table off.

Using the same chargers absolutely saved me money and space(storage)while creating 2 very lovely table settings.  I'd love to know ways you've used home decor in multiple ways to save!

Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour 2017 {Part 1}

Let's begin the tour in the foyer.  The garland along with gold bows and assorted gold ornaments adorn the stairs.  In previous years the garland had red ornaments but this year I went with gold as the main color for downstairs.

The main Christmas tree is in our living room, the only location that will accommodate a tree comfortably.

As I mentioned earlier, gold is the main color scheme this year in my downstairs decor.  As part of Merry and Bright, I selected a few Christmas pieces to use in my  decor from Amara.  Amara has the most amazing selection of Christmas decor along with every day items such as candles, wine glasses, trinket boxes,cutting boards and so much more I can't even begin to list them all.

The geometric diamond baubles immeidately caught my eye and I knew they would be perfect on our tree!  I can't decide which  of the 3 finishes I adore the most!

The view from the foyer into the living room might be my favorite this year.

As we move into the family room, this tree is a bit smaller, but so is the space I have for it.  This is the only tree this year that all the lights work!  This tree is new this year and from WalMart.  Since I've had to add lights to all the other trees in the house I opted for a non-prelit tree.

For the mantel, I start with 2 pieces of store bought garland.  Those are attached to the mantel with easy to remove adhesive hooks, it takes about 4 to safely support the garland.    With the garland secure I begin to add greenery from our yard.   Honey always makes a run to the farm and picks me up cedar clippings.  Layering lights in the cedar adds a soft glow in the evening.  Magnolia branches are added as well.

A few weeks back on my Instagram stories I ask for help selecting either a hurricane or these Double Happiness Jars.  Many thanks to all of you that sent me messages letting me know your vote!  The blue and white overwhelmingly was the winner!

This gorgeous new pillow was also a perk of Merry & Bright this year.  The Smith Honig fabric line is a must see!  The vibrant colors of the fabrics are absolutely gorgeous.  The quality of the fabric and the pillow itself are incredible.

The tassles create the perfect punch to the pillow.  While I'd personally never detach the tassles, they are detachable.
