Styling the Master Bedroom

Styling the master bedroom in this house has taken practically the entire summer.. Way back in May I shared for the first time our master, you can read about it here.

At long last, the bed is sporting new bedding most of which was purchased months ago from a variety of places.  The quilt/coverlet I found at SteinMart way back in the spring.  At that time I had no idea what I would find to go with it so it sat in my closet all summer.

Don't you just love the toile shams?!  They've been sitting in the bottom of my closet since I found them at an antique store back in May.  Best part of the shams, they cost me $12 each!  Ya'll I've been pricing custom shams for months and they were not in the budget but, at 24 bucks I was delighted to bring them home.

The small needle point pillow was also a thrift store find.  The euro shams, dust ruffle and throw pillow are all part of a set from Dillard's.  As soon as I found out that they were going to be on their extra 40% off sale I just sat and waited for that day.  Fortunately, the shams worked with the coverlet I had already picked up.

One thing that decorating our bedroom has taught me is patience.  I don't believe there isn't anything in this room that I haven't had to wait to purchase or find.  A few weeks ago I also shared that the vanity that was serving as a bedside table had made a move up to the guest room.  It got to move when I found a new/old bedside table on one of  those online yard sale sites that are all over Facebook.

Let's talk about lamps for just a minute.  I don't love the one on the night stand.  There is a pair of them that I have had forever!  John was a baby when I found these in Kirkland's some 16 years ago.  For now they will get us by for bedside lighting.  Honestly ya'll, I'm not sure what I want in their place.  Something with a bit more color for sure, a larger shade no doubt!  But again....patience.

Since we still do not have a headboard for our king size bed I knew whatever went over the bed would need to make a statement and almost imulate a headboard.  These prints were a find at an antique store about 2 years ago and have been in various spots in the house.  Not sure when it occured to me to put those over the bed but I knew they would be perfect.

The sconce and the crested plate were a more recent purchase, both appear to be very old and an ideal crown to the the prints.

Now if I could just find lamps and curtains....yet another lesson in patience.

Finding Things To Do With Groupon

This is a sponsored post.
All opinions are 100% mine.

Sometimes I sit around and wonder where the time went with both of my sons.  They are young men now at ages 16 and 21.

When they were younger I had no problems occupying their time.  But as they have grown up some how Legos and trips to the pool don't see to fit the bill, imagine that. Since they are both now driving and dating the whole "what are we gonna do this weekend" comes into much of our conversations.  My suggestion is almost always the same, have you looked at Groupon?
It generally yields lots of options for local activities as in movies tickets, bowling, restaurants and museum shows.  I adore how Groupon gives experiences and not just restaurants, water parks and ticket deals, but I sure do like those!

Often times when I am helping one of them look for things to do I find lots of activities for Honey and myself like dinner out!

Groupon also sparks creativity in planning an outing.  On Groupon Things To Do there is something for everyone.  It is easy, quick and affordable fun right at your finger tips...or should I say the click of your mouse usually from the comfort of your home!

I would love to hear what you have found on Groupon that has saved you money and were fun to do!

The Vanity Moves to the Guest Room

Our guest room is a culmination of some of my most fav things in the entire house.  I've said it many times, I could move in that room and never look back at our master.  More than just a couple times, I've shared our guest bedroom here on the blog.  In case you've missed those posts you can visit them here and here.

Speaking of fav things, a few years ago for Valentine's Day Honey bought an antique vanity or as some may refer to it, a dressing table.  It will forever go down as one of his best gifts...that and the Roomba!  Back to the vanity, when it came home it found its temporary home as a bedside table in the master.  If you want to see how it looked in the master, you can read all about it here.

While I enjoyed its tenure as a bedside table it was never intended to be the vanity's forever home.  Last week I happened upon a chest that has replaced the vanity beside our bed, I'll be sharing that in a later post.  I was delighted to move the vanity to the new spot in the guest room.

The brown transferware also moved.  Those plates never looked so gorgeous!  When I picked the little lamp out months ago, I knew that one day it would be perfect for the vanity.

With the updating of the guest room I'm headed to look for new lamps for the master!

Outdoor Fire Pit Inspiration

With temps lingering in the 90's it is hard to even think about building a fire.  Before we know it the summer heat will give way to cool, crisp evenings and Fall will be well underway.  Honey keeps talking about building a fire pit as we have the perfect spot for one.  For inspiration we popped over to Bestie N's to tour hers.  This is one design space that I absolutely had to share with you all! outdoor-fire-pit

My Youngest Drives Away

It seems like ages ago but way back in May, our youngest, John turned 16.  You might have seen the Instagram pic about it.

The very day he celebrated his birthday he also had to take the AP European History test.  It was a long tedious afternoon for all that takes that test.  It takes months to get the results.  After taking the test John didn't feel very confidant, he even went as far to say that he was sorry he wasted our money.  This course is a college level course and if you make a certain score it qualifies for college credit, thus the reason we paid for the test.  Turns out he didn't waste our money he made the highest score you can make a 5!!! After the test we took a few of his friends out for a celebration at a Mexican  place he likes to eat.

And yes they did sing to him in spanish!

After dinner, they headed to our neighborhood pool for an evening of cards and swimming.

We had already been looking for a car prior to his actual bday but had not found what we wanted. Our search continued until last week when I walked into Mike Patton Honda of Lagrange, GA.

Now ya'll, in the past few months I have met with countless car salesman, but the folks at Mike Patton Honda were first rate!  Meet Adam Black, my salesman.

I can't use enough adjectives to describe what a super guy he was during the entire process.  He has even text and called a few times to check on John and the car.  If you are in the area and need a car I'd highly recommend Adam and Mike Patton Honda.

John was very happy to end up in an SUV since he has 2 rather larger band instruments he has to fit into it.  The SUV is not new but the interior was extremely clean and had been well taken care of.

This morning as he left for band practice I snapped this pic.

I can't help but think about the countless hours I've spent over the last 18 years waiting in car rider lines for both boys.  Those days are over now and to be honest, as he drove away I felt great pride and a wee bit of sadness as this stage in my life is over.

Over the years I've reminded myself when I felt overwhelmed with motherhood that childhood is temporary!
