Summer Mantle

With summer time in full swing I thought it would be a good time to share the mantle.  Try as I may, I always come back to a simple, not too busy look.
With the drapes hung on either side of the fireplace, it somehow adds to the composition of the mantle.
With the recent update of the family room and kitchen, I've added a more coastal elements to lend to a coastal feel to both rooms.  When shopping my house for art to hang over the mantle my first thought this was not large enough.  I knew that if I left it for a week it just might grow on me and it did.  I love this piece of art!  It was an anniversary gift about 2 years ago from the hubs, it reminded him of me and our boys at the coast.  He is a keeper!

The pair of sconce that hangs above the mantle has been the bane of my existence since we moved in. They have limited what I felt I could do in design to the mantle.  They were brushed venetian gold that frankly looked as if they needed a good scrubbing.  Instead, they got  spray painted.  Now that didn't make me like them anymore but the color was more tolerable.  My electrician husband...aka..Tom said I couldn't just take them down and cover the hole up so I've suffered.  After the redo of this room I have decided to embrace those sconce and just "go with it."
These  little boxes were  picked up at Hobby Lobby probably 10 years ago, they have literally been in every room of the last 3 houses.
This little cutie has also moved around this house and it seems settled here for the moment.
I couldn't be more please with how this looks!

  1. This is gorgeous! I love the sconces. They add the perfect height on each side. I love how the curtains frame the fireplace. I have french doors on both sides of mine, I may try this. Great job!

  3. I think it looks lovely as is!!!
However....what about gluing small shells to the metal part of the sconces, and Hancock Fabrics has a hemp "fringe" that is made with dangly seashells. If you want some and can't find it, whistle...I will send you some!
Your home is absolutely lovely!! I wandered in today from "Cozy Little House" and I'm reading backward :^)
    Blessings to you,
