The Dining Room

The dining room in our house has worn many different coats of paint in the past 7 years. I like to say it has had an identity crisis.  When we first moved in it was red, with no chair rail. Our furniture just faded into the walls.  So my bright idea was to paint the same color we had in the Savannah house and add the chair rail. That color was called Lakeshore by Sherwin Williams.  After Lakeshore came Paris Mint, it lasted the longest in the dining room mostly because I didn't know else to paint. Regardless of how many paint chips I brought home nothing seemed to fit or feel right. Then a friend told me about a color she'd seen and suggested I look at Benjamin Moore's Paladian Blue.  I liked it and it looked gorg with the furniture.

The candle holders along with the foot bath were picked up over in Pine Mountain, Georgia at a couple of my fav picking spots!  When I saw the foot bath there was no doubt that is was going home with me!
These etchings are of Colonial Williamsburg and they are old.  I can not even guess how old they might be.  If you all could have seen the junk heap I drug them out of you'd really appreciate how they look hanging! They were a perfect choice to match and use in the dining room.
Now you all have already seen this pic in this post here about hanging mirrors and plates.  I positively adore decanters, Blue Willow and Staffordshire!

Ever since I saw the dinner gong on Downton Abbey, it could be said that I've been somewhat obsessed with finding one.  I did indeed find one!  It was hanging on the wall at Sweet Home Antiques over in Pine Mountain and it rang out my name...T-A-M-Y-R-A...take me home.  It came from England on a recent buying trip the owners of Sweet Home made.  I'd like to imagine it hung in a fantastic old English manor.  It is truly swoon worthy! The kids get a kick out of it when I ring them for dinner!

There isn't anything I'd change about the dining room except I still haven't found the perfect rug...one day!

  4. I have Palladian Blue in my office where I work at a house museum and it is so restful--I also put it in the master bathroom in my house. It is a deeper blue with a touch of turquoise/green than yours looks--but I've noticed in my office that it changes as the sun/light moves through the day. It's like a chameleon and takes on its surroundings--a very versatile color!

  7. What a stunning Dining Room....and I love your latest color choice for the walls. It looks like one of those chameleon colors that as the light fades the color slightly changes and gives off a gorgeous hue.
