Celebrating Cinco de Mayo

I'm just curious, raise your hands if you know why Cinco de Mayo is celebrated.   If you don't know let me enlighten you.  May 5th is celebrated because of an unlikely victory the Mexican Army had over French forces on May 5, 1862 at the Battle of Puebla.  So there...the more you know right?

I think that is just great and all but, you know why I celebrate cinco de mayo....it is as good as any reason to enjoy tacos, guacamole and margaritas!  Any reason to gorge on guacamole makes for a great day! HA!

This year I thought it would be fun to create a more festive atmosphere for those tacos!  We are having a few friends over so, I thought it would be fun to do a tablescape to make it festive!

Originally, I wanted to pick up a pinata for a centerpiece from Party City.  Found these cuties and opted for a few instead of one large one!
Mock Margaritas rarely come with an umbrella but ours will!

Since I typically use more subdued colors in my home I'm absolutely loving the vivid colors in the placemats and salad plates.  Both the placemats and salad plates were purchased at Pier 1 Imports.

The charger was a new item this spring at Pier 1 and I snatched those up as soon as I saw them!  They compliment almost every dish I own so be prepared to see these often this summer!  Here is a close up of the dish stack!

Menu plans are steak & chicken fajitas, tacos, taco salads for those wanting something a bit lighter, chips, queso & salsa and of course guacamole!  I'm also adding Cuban Black Beans this year.  Our older son dates the most precious girl from Miami and she makes these black beans that are out of this world!  Stay tuned for that recipe coming soon to the blog.  They are so good I wouldn't dare keep those to myself!

Do you celebrate Cinco de Mayo?  I'd love to hear how you do!
